How open ended are the conversations? Is it simply clicking the right person at the right time? Ortiz: Well, as any good detective knows, interviewing witnesses and interrogating suspects are the foundations of a criminal investigation. IGN: The game seems to focus a ton on dialogue.

All of the action unfolds on the touch screen, where players will use their stylus to find, investigate, combine, and use items in their quest to crack the case. It isn't merely a means of advancing the dialogue. Where I think Touch Detective distinguishes itself, though, is in its tactical use of the Touch Screen.

Both games are point-and-click adventures where you gather evidence, interview witnesses, and survey crime scenes to solve a series of mysteries. Do you think Touch Detective is a fair comparison to them? Was there any inspiration from either game? Ortiz: Yeah, a lot of people have been comparing Touch Detective to Phoenix Wright, which is a great game. IGN: So far the game seems to be thrown in with Phoenix Wright and Another Code. I don't know what the inspiration behind it was, but it's like nothing we've ever seen before. The game itself has a cool 70's detective show vibe to it that's really enhanced by the jazzy music.

It looks like a cross between a Tim Burton movie and a Jhonen Vasquez comic. IGN: Where did the inspiration for Touch Detective come from? It has a very specific and stylized feel. IGN: Is Touch Detective based on an anime or manga series, or is it a totally new IP for DS? Ortiz: Touch Detective is a completely original IP, but the character art is so amazing that I wouldn't be surprised if an anime or manga was created based on the game.
But to do so, she'll have to solve four strange cases which will center on a bizarre cast of characters that include a cake-loving shark, a mysterious organ grinder, and a short-tempered hot dog vendor. Although she's just a rookie sleuth, her dream is to be accepted into the Great Detective Society. After her famous father passes away, Mackenzie inherits the family biz: a renowned detective agency. Surely the stench of burning flesh would have disturbed anyone? Nonetheless this story shows the human side of Montalbano, especially at the end when he allows the chief suspect a few moments of freedom on his own before taking him into custody.YES NO Ortiz: In Touch Detective you'll assume the role of Mackenzie, who can best be described as a younger version of Veronica Mars. The only snag with this particular mystery is that it leaves certain loose ends of plot: Antonio has quite literally fried to death in his wheelchair, yet it seems that Giacomo did not notice anything amiss when he came back to Antonio's house. Alberto Sironi's production goes through various twists and turns with a surprise ending that takes viewers by surprise. Meanwhile Mimi Augello (Cesare Bocci) investigates a separate murder of a loan-shark, which turns out to have a vital bearing on the Larussa case. As he conducts his investigations, he uncovers a complicated plot involving Antonio's brother Giacomo (Luigi Maria Burruano), a high school physics teacher subsequently accused of murdering Antonio and a childhood sweetheart of both brothers (Ileana Rigano) who has returned to the local area after the death of her husband. Everyone is certain that this is an open-and-shut case except for Montalbano (Luca Zingaretti). Antonio Larussa has apparently committed suicide in his own house with a complicated system of wires that transform his wheelchair into an electric chair.
